A Close Distance
Rebecca Finley
Rebecca Finley’s work focuses on human experience and interaction. Photographing strangers in public settings such as fairs, festivals, and parks, Finley isolates her subjects and seeks to find order in chaotic environments. These subjects are willing collaborators. They have agreed to take a moment from their lives and form a brief connection with the photographer. Finley’s work allows the viewer to glimpse into the lives of others if only for 1/125 second.
Rebecca Finley is an artist who teaches photography at Sam Houston State University. Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Rebecca earned a BA in Media Arts from The University of Tennessee in 1997 and her MFA in Photography from The San Francisco Art Institute in 2000. Prior to accepting her position at SHSU in 2005, Rebecca has taught photography courses at The San Francisco Art Institute, The University of Tennessee, Carson-Newman College, and Pellissippi State. Her photographic work has been shown throughout the country.
