Artist Statement
With my work, I examine the physicality of emotion, not only how the body reacts to our mental state but how the physical property of objects convey these emotions as well. I am interested in the translucency and visceral quality of materials and how they convey physical and emotional sensations. I use objects and substances of similar color and varied texture such as watercolor, pigments, latex and vaseline, along with found objects to reference the often grotesque nature and beauty of body and organic matter. Through this exploration I discover ways of looking at universal states of mind and body
that are often kept private, such as pain, anxiety and grief.
